Updated, 11:06 a.m. | The cleanup of the Lower Manhattan park that has been occupied by protesters for nearly a month was postponed Friday shortly before it was supposed to begin, averting a feared showdown between the police and demonstrators who had vowed to resist any efforts to evict them from their encampment.
But sporadic clashes between protesters and the police erupted anyway when demonstrators started marching through the winding streets of the financial district after learning that the cleanup had been called off. At least 14 were arrested, the police say.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, in a radio interview on Friday morning, sought to make it clear that the the decision to postpone the clean up was made by Brookfield.
He said that the company made its decision after receiving a flurry of threatening phone calls from elected officials.

But they are under severe pressure from authorities, and some media are dismissing them as fringe groups. Occupy Wall Street Group Meditation
The people have as expected risen up against those who have perpetuated the conditions that have held you in their control. We see you as being very restrained, and endeavouring to keep them as peaceful as possible. It is your right to demonstrate, but authorities fear such opposition to them. It is why they try to prevent such news being reported. However, it will not make any difference as the movement for change has progressed beyond their grasp.
Truth through comedy: Occupy Wall Street
this is why I’m taking Occupy Wall Street — or, perhaps more specifically, the ‘We Are The 99 Percent’ movement — seriously. There are a lot of people who are getting an unusually raw deal right now. There is a small group of people who are getting an unusually good deal right now. That doesn’t sound to me like a stable equilibrium.
The organizers of Occupy Wall Street are fighting to upend the system. But what gives their movement the potential for power and potency is the masses who just want the system to work the way they were promised it would work. It’s not that 99 percent of Americans are really struggling. It’s not that 99 percent of Americans want a revolution. It’s that 99 percent of Americans sense that the fundamental bargain of our economy — work hard, play by the rules, get ahead — has been broken, and they want to see it restored.

Michelle Malkin makes the claim that Occupy Wall Street is 99% white. It hurts my irony bone for someone on Fox News to criticize a social movement for being “99% white.” It hurts real bad.
According to Malkin:
“The protesters have taken to calling themselves the ‘99 percent’ in the country, labeling the capitalists they wish to remove from power the other ‘1 percent.’ When Occupy Wall Street activists call themselves the ‘99 percent,’ it turns out they mean 99 percent non-diverse (by their own politically correct measurements). It’s as pale out there at Camp Alinsky as MSNBC’s prime-time lineup or the New York Times editorial board. Not counting the cameos by Jesse Jackson and Cornel West, that is.”
Uh-huh… love the photo choice showing a rather diverse crowd, Fox Nation. I don’t need to debunk your claim since you, um, did it yourselves.
